It's not just for pickles.... Week #4

VINEGAR!!!

Now this week is a bit different because we are adding supplies to our storage that are for more than eating!

Vinegar can be used for cooking, preserving and CLEANING!! I think I use it more to clean than to cook! I pour 1 cup of vinegar down each of my household drains with 1/2 cup baking soda once a week to freshen them and keep them clear of build up.

I use vinegar in my dishwasher as a rinse agent instead of Jet Dry or other similar products.

White vinegar is a great fabric softener! I use a cup in the fabric softener dispenser with each load of laundry. It's also great for whitening whites and getting underlying "odors" out!

So this week stock up of the following:

White vinegar
Cider Vinegar
Towels and Washcloths

This is the time of year where I go through all my linens. Any washclothes or towels that are worn, stained, etc. move into my storage stash! I also use these towels, washclothes, etc for camping! So this camping bin is kept with my food storage.

Do you have any tips to share about vinegar use? PLEASE SHARE!! :)

apple cider vinegar has huge benefits. google them all... but my favorites is a natural antibiotic, balanced stomach acid (gets rid of heartburn in other words) and it helps break down fat. i drink it 1-3 times a day with hot water. recently my SIL diluted it and got rid of her pink eye. :)

when you use it to wash/soften clothes, do they keep the vinegar smell?

I haven't ever had them have the vinegar smell.

I have used it when I forget to put a load of wash in the dryer for more than a day.... and it gets that stinky smell... I put a tablespoon of vinegar in the wash with a little more detergent and the smell goes away.

I've never had the vinegar smell in my clothes. If anything they've smelled fresher since I've started using vinegar!
